09-11-2025 - 12: 15 PM - From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - The Federal Trade Commission is issuing orders to seven companies that provide consumer-facing AI-powered chatbots seeking information on how these firms measure, test, and monitor potentially negative impacts of this technology on children and teens.
09-11-2025 - 12:45 PM - Sometimes, when the CB Radio band is wide open as it is now, I'll count the number of times I hear "No doubt about it" and wish I had a dollar for each of them.
09-11-2025 - 12:55 PM - Truckers were using profanity on Channel 19. I picked up the mic and said, "Please watch your language, there are truckers out there and they're not used to hearing that kind of talk." That got a few laughs. It is what it is, folks, bad words happen now and then on the CB Radio.
09-11-2025 - 1:35 PM - An oversized load is moving through town, and radio communications are being conducted on CB Radio Channel 25. Tune in with your CB Radio or scanner radio.
09-11-2025 - 3:00 PM - I've been getting my money's worth listening to our local WFISD school buses, and that's all I'm going to say about that. Well, other than encourage you to tune in at 152.360 MHz on your scanner radio.
09-11-2025 - 3:45 PM - Around 1983, the Wichita Amateur Radio Society set up an Amateur (ham) Radio display at Sikes Senter Mall. It was located in the "pit", located in the open area just outside what used to be the mail Dillards store. This sunken area was filled in years ago. I don’t know if the W.A.R.S. club did any other demonstrations at the mall. I’m guessing that they probably did.
09-11-2025 - 6:15 PM - The Local Group has taken local command of CB Radio Channel 23. Tune in. That's 27.255 MHz for you scanner radio enthusiasts.

09-10-2025 - 5:25 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 12,268 Megawatts.
09-10-2025 - 5:40 AM - The next time you find yourself at the north end of Ohio Avenue, cross over to the other side of the railroad tracks and walk across the long-closed Ohio Street Bridge. By the time you get to the north end, you'll realize that it's made of asphalt-covered wood!
09-10-2025 - 5:50 AM - Over a dozen years ago, the downtown YMCA was using Family Radio Service "walkie-talkies" to stay in touch with each other within the building. I don't know what type of radios are in use today, or if they are still using radios. Our Walmart stores are becoming so large that I once saw a family using FRS radios to keep in touch with each other inside the building.
09-10-2025 - 6:00 AM - I was watching the 2009 Star Trek movie when I noticed several dual-band and tri-band mobile antennas, commonly used in Amateur (ham) Radio, affixed to one of the consoles on the bridge. They looked silly.
09-10-2025 - 6:10 AM - A few decades ago, a story circulated about an employee of the City Traffic Engineering Department who was reprimanded or fired for programming certain traffic signals to make his commute home from work a little smoother. It's Wichita Falls - all rides home are pretty smooth.
09-10-2025 - 6:40 AM - If you're a pilot, you're probably familiar with the $100 hamburger. That's what it used to cost decades ago to rent a small plane and fly not too far away to get a hamburger. I made trips to Lawton, Graham, Walters, and Lake Texoma for burgers. At the "travel plaza" in Walters, there was a Howard Johnson's restaurant. Just across the highway is or was a small airport. There was an elevated walkway over the highway connecting the two. We once made a skydive onto the McDonald's lawn in Walters, but that's another story. These days, that burger could cost you $300-$400! When I learned to fly in 1972, a Cessna 150 cost $12 an hour, and the instructor was $6 an hour. It's a bit pricier today! Tune in to local air traffic at Kickapoo Airport at 122.700 MHz and Wichita Valley Airport at 122.800 MHz.
09-10-2025 - 6:45 AM - I found these CB Radio crystals on eBay and bought them just for old-time's sake. You needed two for each channel - one for transmit and one for receive. These are for Channel 5. Do you remember them?
09-10-2025 - 7:00 AM - Local CB Radio traffic has been very light this morning, and conditions have yet to open up for DX (long-distance) contacts. Later, I'll check Amateur (ham) Radio for some Parks on the Air® Morse code activity.
